By supplementing museum staff without receiving direct remuneration, volunteers enable the Museum & Aquarium to expand our services to the public, to further research and develop operations, and to project and maintain our positive image in the community.

The Down in the Delta Volunteer (National River Center) assists the Delta Educator with tasks such as instructing visitors to rinse hands, explaining the proper technique to use while interacting with the animals and provides simple interpretation when applicable. Using photos, interpretive media the live Cow nose, yellow, Atlantic stingray; this volunteer assists the Delta Educator in interpreting the stingray of the Mississippi Delta and in maintaining a safe environment for our animals and or visitors.  Shifts are Daily 10:00am - 12:00pm and/or 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Please state your availability when responding.

Down in the Delta volunteers are needed 7 days a week 363 days a year (closed Christmas and Thanksgiving Day). Volunteers are asked to consider a weekly schedule of 1-2 hours per week. (The Museum & Aquarium requires at least 10 hours per year to remain an active volunteer). Active volunteers will earn the following benefits:

When volunteers work in public areas and commit to a regular schedule they will be given a museum uniform shirt (similar to a polo shirt). The uniform shirt should be worn with tan or khaki colored pants; no blue jeans, blue jean skirts, or shorts. Capri khakis are acceptable.  All volunteers must wear a name badge to be identified as a museum volunteer

Interested volunteers will be contacted to set up an interview. Interviews take approximately 45 minutes and will include a small tour of the facility.
