By supplementing museum staff without receiving direct remuneration, volunteers enable the Museum & Aquarium to expand our services to the public, to further research and develop operations, and to project and maintain our positive image in the community.

The Blacksmith/Maintenance/Skilled volunteer (Boat Shop) is located in the boat shop or blacksmith shop in the Mississippi River Discovery Center. This is a group of volunteers that get together on Thursday mornings to help with electrical, woodworking, blacksmithing, building, and repairing projects for the Museum & Aquarium. If you like to work with your hands, have a skill that you would like to utilize or have wanting to learn a skill, this is the position for you!

Blacksmith/Maintenance/Skilled volunteers are needed 2 days a week. currently each Thursday morning but we are looking at adding skilled volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays, once trained. (The Museum & Aquarium requires at least 10 hours per year to remain an active volunteer). Active volunteers will earn the following benefits:

When volunteers work in public areas and commit to a regular schedule they will be given a museum uniform shirt (similar to a polo shirt). skilled volunteers are encouraged to follow our safety policies, further discussion on apparel and equipment upon confirmation of acceptance. 

Interested volunteers will be contacted to set up an interview. Interviews take approximately 45 minutes and will include a small tour of the facility.
