Volunteer: Halloween at Wanderwood - Garden Attendant

Celebrate Halloween in the gardens! We are extending our hours from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in partnership with our neighbors at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botantical Garden hosting the Ghouls in the Gardens outdoor movie night. We need four enthusiastic volunteers to host interactive activity stations, welcome families, and help us bring this community event to life.

(Note: Regular garden admission applies to guests, but volunteers participate for free!)

Volunteer: Guest Services - Afternoons

As a Guest Services volunteer, you are the friendly face and helping hands that keep The Wanderwood Gardens safe, beautiful, and welcoming for every visiting family! While Guest Services volunteers assist with a variety of tasks throughout the day, our Afternoon Shift plays a critical role in putting the Gardens "to bed" and ensuring our attractions are fresh and ready for the next morning's guests.

Key Closing Duties Include:

Attraction Reset: Stroll through our whimsical activity zones to tidy up, sweep pathways, and reset play elements so everything is in its place.

Cottage Closing: Help close down the Cottage Learning Center, including light sweeping and vacuuming.

Facility Support: Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the main areas and assist with a light cleaning/stocking of the visitor restrooms.

Guest Assistance: Answer final visitor questions and share a warm farewell with families as they head home at the end of the day.

Shift Details & Expectations:

Qualifications: Friendly attitude, attention to detail, and ability to perform light physical activity (walking, sweeping, bending).

Attire: Branded Wanderwood Volunteer t-shirt, neat pants or shorts, and comfortable walking shoes.

Onboarding: No prior experience needed! On-the-job training is provided directly by your Guest Services team at the start of your shift.

Parking: Please park in the DABG in any area outside of our main visitor parking lot to save spaces for guests.

The Role: Be the first friendly face guests see at the Gardens. You’ll pilot our courtesy shuttle, the "Garden Hopper," around the DABG/Marshall Park parking areas and the Wanderwood entrance. You’ll help manage parking flow and provide a warm welcome to families as they arrive.

Key Tasks:  Transport guests safely via the shuttle.

Direct incoming traffic to available parking spots.

Share basic "know before you go" info (bathroom locations, kiosk info).

Maintain radio contact with the WWG team.
