Following the September 11th terrorist attacks, Americans united in a remarkable spirit of compassion, patriotism, and volunteerism. On this 15th anniversary of 9/11, the best way to remember the innocent lives lost and the heroic efforts of first responders and the military, is by joining with others in service projects that meet local needs and reclaim the spirit of unity that followed 9/11. The 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance is a nationally recognized Day of Service declared by the Corporation for National and Community Service and supported by the Volunteer Generation Fund.

United Way, in collaboration with the 9/11 planning committee, will host the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance on Sunday, September 11, from 5-7 p.m. inside Blades Chapel and the Sergeant Jeffrey B. Dodge Veterans Center at the University of Dubuque. This event will showcase stories and experiences of first responders, emphasize the importance of serving others, and connect the community with volunteer opportunities. The night will be observed with music, inspirational speakers, and fellowship!
